Once again this year, CIG is working with social projects to promote solidarity.
Today we would like to share a very special project with you. This is a close collaboration with the NGO “Granada for Africa” directed by Carmen Morell Parera, which has allowed us to learn about their needs and get in contact with the Kataban school in Benín.
They asked us to collaborate so that they are able to buy paper, pencils, books, and other school supplies, which all students are completely lacking.
To face this challenge, we got going by organizing two initiatives. Both of these are well known by many families at the school, since they actively participated in them:
We couldn´t be happier with how well-received these two initiatives were and we hope that this huge amount raised for “Granada for Africa” is able to provide students with school supplies and that our students and their families are able to see exactly how useful their donations are.
During the Day of Non-violence and Peace, we along with the Dílar townhall invited “Granada for Africa” to the school to give them two cheques for the amount raised (1191€ and 4725€, in total 5,016€).
What does this project mean to our students? Mainly, it is a way of learning about the boys and girls at this school, their day-to-day reality, understanding and valuing our very different and favourable situation that we have in this part of the world… Meeting each other and communicating through the videos which we sent and received, through father Raymond´s mobile phone. We can see that this relationship has been a very positive one for students from both schools.
